Saudi visa issuance process goes digital; Applicants must visit VFS centre

  Jeddah:  In a significant development, Saudi Arabia has begun to implement e-visa for Indians who are arriving from India. The new system that eliminated the traditional visa sticker on passports came into force on May 1. Now only the QR code is to be read to extract the visa details. However, visa information is sent to the registered email ID of visa holders and the same can be printed on an A-4 size paper to have a hard copy to prove they have obtained a visa. The new system is part of Vision 2030 that enables digital governance in a gradual manner. The e-visa initiative came into effect on May 1 in India and other seven countries. The employment, visit and residence visas for Indians can be processed through an e-visa system where immigration authorities extract the details through a QR scan code. UAE flights: Dh179 tickets to India? Airline looks to launch new routes

  The UAE’s ultra-low-cost airline Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is going through regulatory procedures to start India flights. “We are looking at the Indian Subcontinent as there is very high demand. We are super excited if we get into that market as we are currently going through the regulatory normal process and as soon as that is closed we will be able to announce routes,” said Johan Eidhagen, officer and managing director for Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi-based national carrier serves 24 destinations and its parent company flies into Abu Dhabi from 11 destinations. Set to launch this summer, it will commence operations to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and relaunch flights to Larnaca, Santorini and Sohag, Egypt. It is currently operating eight aircraft and aims to double in a year. Last year, it carried 1.2 million passengers and aims over two million in 2023.

The shooting occurred at a government high school in the remote town of Parachinar, nestled on the border with neighboring Afghanistan, local broadcaster Dunya News reported. Students at the school were taking annual exams when the shooting took place. Police said they were investigating the motive behind the incident, adding that it might be terror-related. Parachinar is the only Shia-majority town in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa​​​​​​​ province and has often been the target of terrorist attacks.
